Chamblee, a small city in DeKalb County with 9,552 residents, is one of the most diverse cities in the region. The culture and diversity is expressed in every aspect of the city. This lively city thrives on change, constantly adapting to the modern world. Chamblee has an ideal location between major interstates, proximity to Atlanta, easily accessible public transportation, airports and rail lines. It also has an accessible city government , top-notch public services, and a low tax rate. The city fosters learning and education with an award-winning public school system, a high-tech, easily accessible library, and an influx of multinational newspapers. Beautiful parks provide a valuable center for community life in Chamblee. The Park & Recreation department provides many outdoor activities for the all members of the community. Chamblee is nationally notorious for its Antique Row, which is a charming center of over 500,000 square feet of antiques and one-of-a-kind collectibles. Residents enjoy a rich blend of multicultural celebrations as well as all the charms of small-town traditional life because of the exciting schedule provided to them by the City, civic and business organizations.

In the ninety years Chamblee has been around, the city has undergone many transformations. It began as a bucolic dairy land, became a Southern railroad junction, temporarily housed 40,000 WWI "doughboys", and later became a 1950's industrial complex. Now it attracts young professionals from all over the world, which is ideal for business interactions. 

Chamblee's government thrives on the active participation of its residents in the ongoing business of the city.  Individuals, corporations, volunteer associations and the public sector work together with the City Council to make important political and social decisions. Chamblee's motto is "A City on the Right Track". Despite its small size, Chamblee is proud of its residents' continuous desire to learn more about the international state of affairs and make their mark on the outside world.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 9,552 people, 2,673 households, and 1,849 families located in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 45.36% White, 3.71% African American, 0.91% Native American, 13.98% Asian, 0.32% Pacific Islander, 31.45% from other races, and 4.27% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 56.37% of the population.

33.9% of the 2,673 households had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.4% were married couples living together, 9.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.8% were non-families. Individuals made up 15.8% of all households and 4.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.57 and the average family size was 3.65.

The median income was $45,992 for a household, and the median income for a family was $38,125. Males median income of $22,024 versus $22,368 for females. $15,492 was the per capita income for the city. About 22.9% of the population and 15.8% of families were below the poverty line, including 25.2% of those under age 18 and 7.8% of those age 65 or over.
